RTI Act

Right to information Act  is an Act enacted by the Parliament on 15.06.2005 and notified in the Gazette of India dated 21.06.2005.

It is an Act to provide for right to information for Citizens to secure access to information under the control of Public authority. TRA is a Public authority as defined under the Act.

The Citizens can have access to the information of the Board under the provisions of the Right to information Act except certain information as notified under relevant sections. The Citizens may obtain the information of the Board on Payment of prescribed fees.

There are branches in TRA. TRA is a registered society under the W.B. Society Act. The organization was formed by the tea industry. It is run by counci. The govt. has four rep. on board.

TRA has taken steps to store the general information in an electronic form.

Particulars of facilities available to citizens for obtaining information, including the working hours of library or reading room, if maintained for public.
The working hour of the TRA is 9.30 A.M. to 6.00 P.M.(with Lunch break from 1.30 to 2.00 P.M.) and the TRA follows 5 days week system. (Monday to Friday) The Citizens can approach the offices any time between 9.30 A.M. & 6.00 P.M. for obtaining information.

Public Information Officers (PIOs)

i)Every public authority to designate as many officers as PIOs in all administrative units or offices under it as necessary to provide information under the Act.

ii)Every public authority to designate an officer within 100 days of the enactment of the Act, at each sub-divisional level as an Assistant PIO to receive applications for information or appeals under the Act.

iii)PIO can seek assistance of any other officer considered necessary in discharge of his duties.
