TRA Tocklai

The Tea Research Association carries out and promotes research on tea with the principal objective of improving overall productivity and quality. It is a pioneer in the research and development of tea and an innovator in providing extension services to the tea industry. Research on all aspects of tea cultivation is carried out at Tocklai Tea Research Institute, Jorhat. The increase in productivity from 424 kg/ha in 1900 to about 1800 kg/ha today is a reflection of the impact that Tocklai has had on the tea industry. TRA’s extensive advisory network offers extension services to 1076 tea estates, covering 3,41,049 hectares of land, spread over the South Bank, the North Bank, Upper Assam, Cachar, Tripura, Dooars, Darjeeling and Terai. The North Bengal Regional Research and Development Center, situated at Nagrakata, is a substation of the TRA. Membership is voluntary.
